DESCRIPTION:Join us in PlayLab and make music by building circuits and experimenting with synthesizers. \nIn this hands-on drop-in program\, participants build simple circuits and create sounds they can hear instantly. Try things out\, make changes\, and see what happens as you explore how sound is shaped through play and experimentation. Kids discover how electricity and circuits become music through hands-on making and discovery. \nDesigned for ages 9-12\, Circuit Jam makes music creation immediate and accessible while introducing the building blocks of electronic sound. \nPlayLab is a hands-on sound playground where young visitors can discover how music works. With interactive stations that feature strings\, wind\, percussion\, and electronic instruments\, kids experiment with the building blocks of sound—pitch\, volume\, timbre\, and vibration. Pluck a string\, strike a drum\, blow into an organ\, or shape sound on a synth to hear how instruments create their unique voices. Designed for curiosity and creativity\, PlayLab encourages visitors to listen closely\, explore freely\, and learn how musicians turn sound into music.

SUMMARY:NMC Presents: Voices of Canada Black Music Month Edition
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Black Music Month with the National Music Centre at Studio Bell!  \nJoin us for a free celebration of Black music\, culture\, and creativity on Saturday\, June 6\, curated by MuchMusic legend Master T and hosted by NMC’s Rebecca Bukasa.  \nNMC’s Voices of Canada series uses music to explore and celebrate Canada’s rich cultural heritage through live performances and panel discussions that connect audiences with the stories and songs of Canadian musicians from diverse backgrounds. This special Black Music Month edition will spotlight Calgary’s Black creative community through a full day of music\, spoken word\, conversation\, hands-on activities\, and a community market.  \nPerformers and panelists include spoken word artist Priscille Bukasa\, who draws inspiration from her roots in the Democratic Republic of Congo; UK-born\, Calgary-based singer-songwriter Kindé\, whose music blends R&B\, hip-hop\, Afrobeats\, and gospel influences; songwriter\, music arranger\, and orchestrator King Udofia\, known for his Afro-Jazz project Gbèdu; rapper RTC Profit; hip-hop\, R&B\, Afrobeats\, and dancehall DJ Badgyal; emerging keyboardist and music director ND; and Cindy Ansah\, founder and artistic director of NAPPY Dance Collective. The all-Black contemporary dance collective will also present a short documentary screening highlighting their work and impact.  \nOn the main floor of Studio Bell\, Alcove Centre for the Arts will lead hands-on activities for kids and families\, and a Black Music Month Market will highlight offerings from Calgary’s Black creative community\, from artisans to music industry representatives and recording studio connections.  \nStudio Bell admission is free for everyone on June 6.
