It’s patio season on Stephen Ave
For over a century, Stephen Avenue has been where the city comes to celebrate, shop, fall in love, eat too much, and wear a cowboy hat. It’s been a farmers’ market, a festival ground, and a lunch spot, sometimes all in the same week. It was even home to the first electric streetcars west of Winnipeg back in the early 1900s.
Downtown transforms into the city’s ultimate summer backyard this season, a place where patios, parks, festivals, and nightlife come together to create energy you can feel from the moment you step outside. Stephen Avenue is just the start. Summer lives downtown, and it’s ready to host you.
Walk the full length of the avenue and let the sandstone facades, the buskers and the smell of food from open kitchen doors remind you that this exists in the heart of your city. Browse the boutiques. Discover the coffee shop you’ll immediately make a regular stop. Wander without a plan, because Stephen Avenue rewards that.
We’re also excited to share some additional perks to help you enjoy your time on the promenade:

Stephen Avenue Revitalization Project
The Stephen Avenue Revitalization Project has replaced infrastructure that, in some cases, was pushing 100 years old. On top of that, the worn concrete is being swapped out for granite pavers, new trees have been added, and a curbless design that looks sharp makes it easier to stroll and helps manage stormwater.
With the current phase of work complete right in time for patio season, it’s time to take advantage of summer (while it lasts) and enjoy the Stephen Avenue glow-up.
