SUMMARY:Sled Island presents: Horse Rider\, Bluffing\, Aladean Kheroufi and Lushings
DESCRIPTION:Horse RiderIf you squint hard enough\, you can try to slot them into the “emo” label\, but Horse Rider plays neither the stoned math rock nor the emotionally volatile pop-punk that’s been associated with the term in recent years. Instead\, the four-piece creates an intensely melancholic brand of melodic indie rock\, with influences of slowcore\, power pop and more. \nBluffing \nAlways evolving and (contrary to their name) always wearing their heart on their sleeves\, Bluffing is a Calgary three-piece forging introspective indie rock with post-punk\, emo\, and shoegazey influences. Their contemplative sound blends slacker rock grit with hypnotic grooves and candid lyricism. Check out their two self-released EPs and get hyped for their upcoming full-length.\n  Aladean KheroufiA veteran of the “making it work” school of music making\, Aladean Kheroufi records in improvised spaces with borrowed microphones and a minimalist\, low-volume sound that will be instantly familiar to fans of Vulfpeck. He writes songs that are idiosyncratic\, soulful and devastating\, with a glass half-full optimism that turns heartbreak into melancholy party anthems.\n  Lushings\nChanneling ’90s alternative rock into layered soundscapes that feel both intimate and expansive\, Lushings was initially shaped by their shared influence within Calgary’s music scene and have since become a familiar presence at Sled Island. Weaving hazy melodies through walls of heavy guitar\, their live sets are immersive and unfiltered. \n\nImportant info: Start and running times are subject to change. Please check the Sled Island schedule in June for exact set times. Upon entering a festival venue\, the passholder agrees to being photographed\, filmed or recorded in that venue\, and agrees to the publication\, reproduction\, distribution and broadcast of all photographs\, video or other recordings of the passholder’s voice or likeness without further notice or compensation in any publicity\, advertisement or other publication carried-out by\, or on behalf of\, Sled Island and in perpetuity in any manner and media whatsoever\, including print\, broadcast or internet.\nEveryone has the right to feel safe and included at Sled Island. SUMMARY:Sled Island and Absolute Underground present: Suffering Hour\, Milkmaid and Old Mound
DESCRIPTION:Suffering HourPitch-black metal trio Suffering Hour plumb the depths of depravity for an avant-garde take on extreme music. Their sound features goth intonations\, primal howls\, and even touches of thrash metal on their latest EP\, Impending Rebirth. With thunderous riffs born in the pits of hell\, Suffering Hour is one of the heaviest shows at Sled Island this year. \n\nMilkmaid\nExisting at the edges of heaviness and restraint\, Milkmaid is an all-female doom/sludge trio inspired by the isolation of the prairies. After witnessing the sheer power of Seattle sludge band MUÑECA at Sled Island last year\, Milkmaid found new motivation to represent the genre in 2026\, with hopes of encouraging more women to explore their metal side.\n\nOld Mound\nStream-of-consciousness lyrics\, gliding freak vocals and fuzzed out minimalist bass riffs rule the psychic landscape of Old Mound\, a witchy post-metal project fronted by Wes Christiansen. Meditative and uncanny\, this solo endeavour plies the queer trauma prairie landscapes of Southern Alberta with old haunts to emerge supreme with new wisdom and oracular vision. Important info: Start and running times are subject to change. SUMMARY:Sled Island presents: Spank Williams\, Forest Ray\, Virgo Rising and more
DESCRIPTION:Spank WilliamsA high-energy cow-punk five-piece originally from Merritt\, BC\, Spank Williams pulls as much from James Brown and Tom Waits as they do from Hank Williams and George Jones. The group claims to lack capabilities in singing and songwriting\, but this is easily disputed by their impressive musicianship\, good-time inducing performances and knee-slapping shenanigans. \nForest RaySeattle-based folk n’ roll group Forest Ray has been described as “spaced-out\, down to earth” and “Brit-pop gone country\,” and through a consistent touring and recording schedule\, they have become one of Seattle’s most known active bands. Their sixth studio album\, Windfucker (Jebivjetar)\, was released in January 2024.\nVirgo Rising\nShimmering with knotty arrangements\, heartfelt storytelling and a luminous sense of depth\, Virgo Rising blends intimate bedroom pop with electrifying indie rock. With their EPs Sixteenth Sapphire and Vampyre Year earning critical praise\, stay tuned for their debut full-length album slated for release in the fall of 2026.\nThe Rifle County PlayersEmerging as an experiment to indulge in a genre outside of their musical comfort zones\, The Rifle County Players cut their teeth with country classic covers and have since transformed into a Calgary mainstay with a growing original catalogue. Check out their latest release “22-X Rated” – the first single off their upcoming album expected in 2026.\nImportant info: Start and running times are subject to change. Please check the Sled Island schedule in June for exact set times.\nUpon entering a festival venue\, the passholder agrees to being photographed\, filmed or recorded in that venue\, and agrees to the publication\, reproduction\, distribution and broadcast of all photographs\, video or other recordings of the passholder’s voice or likeness without further notice or compensation in any publicity\, advertisement or other publication carried-out by\, or on behalf of\, Sled Island and in perpetuity in any manner and media whatsoever\, including print\, broadcast or internet.\nEveryone has the right to feel safe and included at Sled Island. SUMMARY:Sled Island and CKXU present: Julius Sumner Miller\, Astrology Girl\, VIBES and more
DESCRIPTION:Julius Sumner Miller\nBlazing their own path in the punk rock world since 2013\, Julius Sumner Miller is a raucous five-piece with five albums under their belt\, and a high adrenaline show that needs to be experienced live. JSM covers the mundane to the arcane; sometimes personal\, sometimes partying\, sometimes political\, it’s all on the table.\n\nAstrology Girl\nBridging the gap between Midwest emo and the Warped Tour punk scene\, Astrology Girl delivers a nostalgic\, diverse selection of songs on their 2024 self-titled EP. Their Sled appearance that same year was a banger\, so strap in for an abundance of sad chords for pit villains this year. \n\nVIBES\nFormed in 2014\, VIBES has become a staple of Alberta’s hardcore scene. The group blends skate-punk and metal influences with five-part vocal attacks\, thunderous drums\, and rapid-fire lyrics tackling political injustice\, harm reduction and personal growth. Start with their latest album\, Baseball Bat to the Worlds End.\n\nRebel Grrrlz\nEmerging from Calgary’s all‑ages underground\, this five‑piece riot punk outfit delivers loud\, fast bursts of teenage angst and socially charged lyrics. Their 2025 included appearances at Purple City\, SoundOff Summit\, and on the Coca-Cola Stage at the Calgary Stampede. Plus\, the release of their snarling debut EP We’re Gonna Eat Your Soul.\n \nImportant info: Start and running times are subject to change. SUMMARY:Sled Island and The Gauntlet present: Lil Mariko\, Tanajah\, Sloosh and more
DESCRIPTION:Lil MarikoKatherine “Lil Mariko” Zhang is a Chinese‑Japanese‑American rapper who turns hyperpop\, trap metal\, and electronic chaos into unhinged anthems. After screaming her way to virality with the song “Where’s My Juul??\,” she’s refined her razor‑sharp aesthetic and meme‑born energy into potent sonic whiplash. Don’t miss her debut Canadian performance at Sled Island.  \nSlooshThe combination of two longstanding solo projects (BOOSH and SlowScan)\, Sloosh has 25 years of experience making electronic music on Gameboys and tiny machines. With the addition of Metro Kit on vocals and Jordin on drums\, this experimental four-piece is a re-imagination of over a decade’s worth of combined effort to make something truly unique.\nTanajahInitially hailing from Maryland and building a loyal fanbase in Denmark\, hip-hop artist Tanajah has developed a unique cross-cultural sound with depth and edge. Her performances are dynamic\, immersive\, and rooted in connection\, inviting listeners into her world with authenticity and purpose. Whether backed by hard-hitting production or more melodic textures\, she delivers each song with intention and emotional clarity.\n\nTheiaAward-winning Māori artist Theia makes trailblazing alternative music with ethereal folk\, Indigenous soul\, art rock and pop influences. A fierce proponent for Indigenous rights\, she is celebrated for using music as a vehicle to ignite change. Onstage\, she’s magnetic; challenging you to feel\, think and let go all at once.\nSunflower MedicineCombining the powers of two incredible and distinct DJs\, this Two-Spirit duo is the definition of synergy. Featuring the electronic\, dubstep\, UKG and DnB contributions of bass producer Skye Pinay (AKA Sunflower Dreams) alongside the old school hip-hop and electric powwow of DJ/emcee Sarah Good Medicine\, these two sisters come together to command any crowd as Sunflower Medicine.\nImportant info: Start and running times are subject to change. SUMMARY:Sled Island presents: Sick Puppy\, schoolyard\, Invisible Hand and ENTWINE
DESCRIPTION:Sick PuppyOtherwise known as your girlfriend’s favourite band\, Sick Puppy began as three friends playing hardcore mid-pandemic but quickly progressed with the release of their debut tape Haunt The Hill and a supporting tour in 2022. Jump to 2026 and we find the band with an upcoming LP\, a second guitarist\, and a drive to expand upon their hardcore roots. \nschoolyardCreating an irresistible alt-punk racket that rides the line between noise and melody\, schoolyard captures raw energy and emotion in their dynamic sound. Driven by a passion for blending diverse genres\, the three-piece merges a gritty garage rock vibe with indie and punk influences\, resulting in something that feels both fresh and nostalgic.\n  Invisible HandPolitically charged and quick to the punch\, Invisible Hand is an East Coast hardcore band that rejects breakdowns in favour of pure intensity. SUMMARY:Sled Island presents: Gus Englehorn\, Virgo Rising\, l.n. baba and Hermitess
DESCRIPTION:Gus EnglehornA former pro snowboarder reborn as a nomadic psych-pop prophet\, Gus Englehorn has lived a rollercoaster life that reads like one of the fantastical fables that fill his songbook. His third album\, 2026’s The Hornbook\, magically transmutes the entire history of 20th century rock and roll into an alien transmission from the future. \nVirgo Rising \nShimmering with knotty arrangements\, heartfelt storytelling and a luminous sense of depth\, Virgo Rising blends intimate bedroom pop with electrifying indie rock. With their EPs Sixteenth Sapphire and Vampyre Year earning critical praise\, stay tuned for their debut full-length album slated for release in the fall of 2026. \nl.n. babaThe moniker of Edmonton-based singer-songwriter Keanan Swan-Azmon\, l.n. baba is inspired by oddball songwriters like Jonathan Richman and Arthur Russell. He embraces imperfection\, crafting homemade songs characterized by intricate guitar work\, witty wordplay\, and his distinct baritone\, which you can hear for yourself on his debut album\, Rubber Eye.\nHermitess\nSelf-described as an aging and slightly reclusive witch dreaming simultaneously in music and images\, Hermitess is the longstanding musical project of harpist/vocalist Jennifer Crighton. Taking stage in a solo performance this year\, expect sonically layered orchestral textures\, harmonic voices\, and pedal-driven magic\, all conjuring a fleeting fever dream.\nImportant info: Start and running times are subject to change. SUMMARY:Sled Island and CJSW present: Backxwash\, MAGELLA\, Lana Del Rabies and more
DESCRIPTION:BackxwashInfluenced by traditional Zambian music\, industrial metal and experimental hip-hop\, Ashanti Mutinta has carved out a noisy place in Canada’s rising rap scene. After a prior win in 2020\, her most recent album\, Only Dust Remains\, was also considered for the 2025 Polaris Music Prize. Uncompromising\, unpredictable\, and deeply political; Backxwash is all this\, and so much more.  \n\nMAGELLA\nMontreal-based singer-songwriter MAGELLA carefully blends elements of industrial\, electronic\, experimental and soul\, and combines it with the diasporic blues. With her powerful\, warm tone\, she uses the various colours of her voice to create a sonic canvas\, examining themes of isolation\, identity and resistance.Lana Del RabiesOn Omnipotent Fuck — the second in a planned trilogy of releases — Lana Del Rabies plumbs the depths of spiritually esoteric thought with clanging sounds and relentless industrial drones. Her confrontational\, feral audio assaults hold a dark mirror up to modern pop music. Will you like what you see? Bring earplugs and prepare for sonic possession. \nYolande Laroche\nA familiar face in projects such as Pony Girl and Orchidae\, Canadian Taiwanese artist and producer Yolande Laroche delivers a high-energy performance that melds EDM with haunting pop melodies and raw dynamic vocals. Bringing a commanding presence to the stage while offering audiences a visceral and unapologetic experience\, stay tuned for her upcoming album Run Body Run.\n\nDermabrasion\nGoth duo Dermabrasion have peddled their fleshy post-punk with a deceptively ferocious live show that has landed them supporting slots for the likes of Lydia Lunch RETROVIRUS\, Vision Video\, and Front 242’s Patrick Codenys. With their debut album\, Pain Behaviour\, released on Hand Drawn Dracula in 2024\, the band received rave reviews and solidified their reputation for menace.\n\nVoid Comp\nThe solo project of artist and producer David Julé\, Void Comp fuses electronica\, indie and alternative rock into a uniquely atmospheric sound. Known for lush\, dark production\, the project indulges in hazy synths\, heavy drum machines\, electric baritone guitar\, and warm\, ethereal vocals that feel both intimate and expansive.\nECHTHROS\nPresenting sheer sonic agony in the form of meticulously arranged industrial/power-electronics\, ECHTHROS delivers a central theme of ongoing colonial violence against the Indigenous Peoples of so-called Canada. Their storytelling delivers anguish\, vengeance\, determination\, and celebration through a wall of harsh drone balanced with the calm uneasiness of what is to come next.\nImportant info: Start and running times are subject to change. SUMMARY:Sled Island presents: Kali Horse\, sundayclub\, APACALDA and Victrix
DESCRIPTION:Kali HorseThe experimental art-rock collaboration of multi-instrumentalist producers Sam Maloney and Desiree Das Gupta\, Kali Horse blends fantasy with harsh realism\, colliding genres with reckless abandon. Their avant-pop whimsicality channels Björk\, while their soaring anthemic moments reflect their rock roots. Their vocal connection? Hypnotic. Check out their latest release\, 2099\, for a sample of what’s to come. \nsundayclubBlurring hazy indie pop with dreamy textures and unfiltered storytelling\, sundayclub’s songcraft doubles as grainy\, glowing snapshots of early adulthood. Formed in rural Manitoba\, the group captures the strange\, beautiful in-between of who you were and who you’re becoming\, sharpening in sound as their sense of self comes into focus.\nAPACALDABorn from the mind of vocalist\, songwriter\, and producer Cassandra Angheluta\, APACALDA deals in goth-tinged indie pop and dark psychedelia. With softly jagged lyrics and moody song production\, she creates a playful\, confrontational\, and charged performance that will have you fashionably brooding all night long.\n  Victrix\nCalgary\, AB\nConnecting the dots between bedroom folk\, chamber pop\, and the darker side of dream pop\, Victrix weaves together the more confessional side of classic songwriting. With a strong penchant for synths\, drum machines\, and tastefully deployed melodic ornamentation\, they betray an abiding interest in the granular details of songcraft and arrangement.\n\nImportant info: Start and running times are subject to change. SUMMARY:Sled Island presents: Plëzher\, Tall Mary\, Cell Press and PERRA
DESCRIPTION:PlëzherBuilt around two bassists\, heavy punk four-piece Plëzher is confrontational\, unfiltered\, and rooted in classic punk grit — tearing through convention and pissing off the patriarchy. Released late last year\, their new self-titled album is 10 songs of raw energy guaranteed to blow your speakers. \nTall Mary\nGender-nonconforming noise rock force Tall Mary channels mystical gay energy through drills\, awls\, and jagged guitars. Their sprawling debut 2LP When Will I Find Something New explores gender and identity under a brutal society. Stirring post-punk\, no wave\, and raw noise into a spellbinding churn\, they’re equal parts construction site\, séance\, and queer liberation.\nCell PressNamed after a Russian prison torture method\, sludge three-piece Cell Press focuses on creating pummeling noisewalls for a dying world. Featuring members from acts like The Great Sabatini\, Architect and The Chariot\, you can find beauty underneath the group’s brutal soundscapes\, but only for those willing to endure the noise.\nPERRACreating art around violence\, sisterhood and catharsis\, five-piece grrrl gang punk band PERRA evokes a wolf-like type of feminist hardcore\, creating a space where ferocity and chaos can make way for solidarity and community. Check out their 2025 double single release LA LA LA / Kathy Acker to prepare for the madness ahead. Important info: Start and running times are subject to change. SUMMARY:Sled Island and Mint Records present: Nora Kelly Band\, Knitting\, Jed Arbour and more
DESCRIPTION:Nora Kelly BandBorn from friends jamming by the train tracks in Montreal’s Mile End neighbourhood\, people flocked to listen and sing along to Nora Kelly Band — until the cops chased them off. NKB’s twist on alt-country delivers haunting harmonies\, rambunctious twang\, and wry lyrics. It’s the perfect backdrop for your next tussle in the hay. knittingWith evocative storytelling and a dry sense of humour\, knitting makes guitar driven\, lyrically introspective indie rock evoking the nostalgia of ‘90s alternative. Their debut album Some Kind of Heaven was released in September 2024 to international critical acclaim\, leading to tours across North America\, Europe and the UK. Their second full-length album is expected in June 2026. \nJed ArbourA self-described “queer\, cathartic\, post-rock listening adventure\,” Jed Arbour shares a generous amount of themselves via their music\, making listeners feel unsettled\, understood\, and self-reflective. A deeply honest and captivating experience\, their music offers a wide range of textures to encompass most moods and worm its way into most eardrums.  \n\nHeaven For RealHelmed by iconoclastic songwriting twins Mark and J. Scott Grundy\, Heaven For Real has existed in many iterations over the past decade; consistently twisting the raw genre materials of pop and rock into perplexingly poetic configurations. SUMMARY:Sled Island and Dandy present: Pearly Moon\, His His\, Bad Bodies\, Medusas and more
DESCRIPTION:Pearly MoonWith a sound blending 12-string jangle\, stompbox freakouts and melodic basslines\, Pearly Moon’s tuneful lo-fi psychedelia invites you to turn off your mind\, relax and float downstream. The group has shared stages with fellow psych purveyors Witch Victim\, The Radiation Flowers\, Doom Gong and more\, and are working on a follow-up to their 2024 debut album Tragicomedy. \nHis HisThe recording project of Halifax-based artist Aidan Belo\, His His combines contemporary slacker rock and alt-folk\, coupled with low fidelity analog production to create something that sounds honest and melancholic. Since their first release in 2020\, they’ve exclusively recorded via cassette in an old wooden barn. We can’t wait to hear how it sounds live. \nBad BodiesBorn in 2018\, Bad Bodies got their start jamming away in a snug attic. Combining the feel-good melodies of R&B with indie rock riffs and dreamy pop synths\, they compose songs akin to paintings layered in warm pink\, orange\, and yellow. The resulting soundscapes build tension with confessional lyrics and infectious hooks\, delivering a summer breeze of grooviness.\nMedusasGirls to the front! With feminist lyrics and fierce\, electrifying performances\, Medusas are a youth riot grrrl band from Calgary (and we love to see it)! Inspired by Bikini Kill\, L7 and Joan Jett\, the trio aims to encourage other young people to fight against injustice and stand up for what’s right.\n\nAPACALDABorn from the mind of vocalist\, songwriter\, and producer Cassandra Angheluta\, APACALDA deals in goth-tinged indie pop and dark psychedelia. With softly jagged lyrics and moody song production\, she creates a playful\, confrontational\, and charged performance that will have you fashionably brooding all night long.\nTempsRooted in David Lavoie’s jazz background and Aidan O’Reilly’s post-punk sensibilities\, Temps builds versatile textures and grooves through intertwining stereo guitars\, resulting in angular riffs and technicolor chords. Their latest EP Wayside captures this interplay at its sharpest: jazzy\, pop-leaning and mathy\, with a precise yet unpredictable momentum.\nImportant info: Start and running times are subject to change. Please check the Sled Island schedule in June for exact set times. \n\nUpon entering a festival venue\, the passholder agrees to being photographed\, filmed or recorded in that venue\, and agrees to the publication\, reproduction\, distribution and broadcast of all photographs\, video or other recordings of the passholder’s voice or likeness without further notice or compensation in any publicity\, advertisement or other publication carried-out by\, or on behalf of\, Sled Island and in perpetuity in any manner and media whatsoever\, including print\, broadcast or internet.\nEveryone has the right to feel safe and included at Sled Island. SUMMARY:Sled Island and CKUA present: HOMESHAKE\, Sharon Udoh and Wayne Patrick Garrett
DESCRIPTION:HOMESHAKEPeter Sagar splits time between Montreal and a home studio in Toronto these days\, but his hypnagogic pop project HOMESHAKE is deeply rooted in his Albertan upbringing. His discography is full of introspection on his prairies past and anticipation of his continuing musical evolution\, delivered with poppy hooks that infect the mind.Sagar cut his teeth playing guitar for Mac Demarco’s touring band from 2012 to 2014 before debuting his solo project with 2013’s lo-fi gem The Homeshake Tape and a sensual debut full-length LP\, In the Shower\, in 2014. On subsequent releases Midnight Snack (2015) and Fresh Air (2017)\, Sagar expanded the HOMESHAKE sound with synthesizers\, drum machines\, and dreamy R&B soundscapes. For his fourth album\, 2019’s Helium\, Sagar crafted an optimistic indie sound that earned praise from Exclaim! and AllMusic. Following a depressive episode\, he released Under the Weather in ‘21\, his most deeply introspective and vulnerable recording yet. In 2024\, HOMESHAKE unleashed two albums onto the world: CD Wallet\, an alternative exploration of his Edmonton childhood\, and Horsie\, a textural down-tempo trip that embodies Sagar’s “less is more” approach to songwriting and creation. The two records balance each other out\, capturing the bravery of an artist that will explore every sonic corner.HOMESHAKE’s impressive catalogue chronicles a journey of self-interrogation and reflection\, drenched in reverb and expressed with confessional wordplay. This spring\, the journey makes its way back to Alberta\, and Sledders are along for the ride. \n\nSharon Udoh\nA Nigerian‑American pianist who cut her teeth in Pentecostal church services\, Sharon Udoh is exploding in the experimental music sphere. From her music as past moniker Counterfeit Madison to collaborations with clipping.\, she’s a bonafide creative hurricane that can’t be tamed. Her vision of hymnals rewires sacred music and shreds up genre lines to explore the future.\n\nWayne Patrick GarrettInstrumentals that weave worlds of atmospheric fantasy is a primer to Wayne Patrick Garrett’s work. Dive into his debut album\, Marine Life\, which explores the pedal steel guitar as a means of conjuring dreamy soundscapes and expressing abstract emotions\, inviting listeners to get lost in expansive sonic environments.\nImportant info:Start and running times are subject to change. SUMMARY:Sled Island presents: Carissa Gem\, World News\, aniqa dear and Pseudo-antigone
DESCRIPTION:Carissa GemThis Calgary DJ is dropping bass-heavy\, rap-tinged sets loud enough to make you ask “What Will The Neighbours Think?” — which\, fittingly\, is also the name of her show on CJSW 90.9. A Western Canadian bass scene staple\, Carissa is building community (and killer shows) one eardrum at a time. \nWorld NewsLive electronic duo World News combines influences of techno\, house\, alternative and ambient music. Channeled through a live hardware setup of synthesizers\, drum machines and samplers\, the heart of their sound lies in improvisation and live mixing. It’s a memorable experience that blurs the lines between rebellion and euphoria. \n\naniqa dear\nThis experimental art pop project is rooted in queerness\, diasporic identity\, grief\, and the eternal interplay between belonging and isolation. aniqa dear weaves her intricate melodic sensibilities with ever-shifting synth-infused textures and polyrhythms\, resulting in danceable music interlaced with stark vulnerability. Her second genre-bending full-length album is scheduled for release in early 2027.\n\npseudo-antigoneFrom early scrappy artistry to sharply precise music production\, pseudo-antigone is the experimental hyperpop project of philosopher and interdisciplinary artist Simone Atenea Medina Polo. Expect detailed and meticulous sound design that leans into metallic synth textures\, loud fuzzy bass\, and punchy beats\, as found on her last LP Melancholic Melodrama. \n  Important info:\nStart and running times are subject to change. SUMMARY:Sled Island presents: Black Country\, New Road\, Chrome Harvest and Eye of Newt
DESCRIPTION:Black Country\, New RoadEmerging from London’s genre-bending “Windmill” scene in 2018\, Black Country\, New Road are a band of true originals\, constantly shape-shifting and re-defining the boundaries of art rock on their own terms.  \nBCNR originally featured a lineup that included Isaac Wood\, Tyler Hyde\, May Kershaw\, Georgia Ellery\, Lewis Evans\, and Charlie Wayne\, adding Luke Mark shortly after the release of their math-y debut single “Athens\, France.” Their first album\, 2021’s For the First Time\, further solidified the group’s commitment to genre agnosticism\, blending post-punk swagger with elements of free jazz and klezmer. The record was nominated for the Mercury Prize\, and was included in the Best Albums of 2021 lists for NME and The Guardian.\nAlmost one year to the day after their first album’s release and led off by four eclectic singles\, ‘22’s Ants From Up There reached number three on the United Kingdom Albums Chart and added shades of chamber pop and indie rock to the sonic quilt. Shortly before this album’s release\, lead singer Isaac Wood announced his departure\, leaving the remaining six members to re-define BCNR’s sound.  \nChange can be an opportunity\, and the group rose to the occasion. The 2023 live album Live at Bush Hall chronicled the rebirth of a band\, a rousing collection of entirely new compositions created since Wood’s departure that debuted a layered\, multi-vocalist approach. This was followed by 2025’s Forever Howlong\, a pastoral odyssey of folk rock hooks\, prog-y digressions\, and twee instrumentation that the band later showcased on an international tour packed with memorable live showings. \nIt’s a new\, exciting era for Black Country\, New Road. Celebrate the next chapter with all of us here at Sled Island.\n\nChrome Harvest\nDense\, textured and full of heart\, Chrome Harvest is constantly pushing boundaries\, weaving together indie rock\, experimental textures\, and lush arrangements to create songs that are personal\, introspective and raw. Their latest self-titled album is their most vulnerable yet\, exploring themes of self-identity\, honesty\, and the struggle to carve out space in the world.\nEye of Newt\nThis is overthought music about overthinking. Eye of Newt — the arty pop project of Calgary-based multi-instrumentalist Nate Waters — relies on shameless songcraft butting up against insistently obtuse compositional quirks. The songs swing wildly from tightly wound art rock to quasi-improvised harsh noise to meticulous pop with starkly humorous lyrics.\n\nImportant info:\nStart and running times are subject to change. SUMMARY:Etran de L'Aïr
DESCRIPTION:Etran de L’Aïr (or “stars of the Aïr region”) began life as a wedding band in Niger in the ‘90s. Their hypnotic riffs and sun-tinged harmonies quickly caught the attention of Portland record label\, Sahel Sounds. The band has since dropped three studio albums\, singing entirely in Tamasheq and bringing pan-African blues rock flavour to the masses.

SUMMARY:Sled Island and Dandy present: Chris Burns & His Going Concerns and more
DESCRIPTION:Chris Burns & His Going ConcernsFour decades of Montreal “racket‑roll” come roaring to life with this garage-born collective. As a member of bands like Terminal Sunglasses and Tha Retail Simps\, Chris Burns has perfected his punk swagger and noisy improvisation. Now\, His Growing Concerns deliver burnzoid anthems right‑this‑minute with ferocious musicianship and unhinged joy. Sounds like a good time to us! \nCircling GirlDrawing inspiration from dream pop icons such as Cocteau Twins and The Sundays\, and modern indie favourites Beach House and Alvvays\, Circling Girl crafts glimmering harmonies and spaced-out guitars that walk the line between familiar and fresh. Their latest album\, Only My Veins Know\, unfolds as a lush dreamscape and a medium for self-exploration.\nSea of LettuceAlways bringing the sunny vibes with their beachy brand of indie rock\, Sea of Lettuce blends components of reflective lyricism with catchy upbeat instrumentation. With four albums released and a history of exciting live performances\, the band’s catalogue is full of summer soundtracks that’ll warm you right up.\nTANGINGUGUNPsychedelic\, dreamy pop duo TANGINGUGUN features wavering guitars\, driving bass\, percussive electronic beats\, and pitch-shifting synths that shimmer at the edges. Male and female vocals intertwine with emotionally rich melodies\, blending Japanese pop nostalgia with surreal\, experimental psychedelia. It’s a sound that feels both intimate and otherworldly.\nBrock Geiger\nWith his debut LP Some Nights\, Brock Geiger takes a bold step out from the shadows of the sideman role\, shining a spotlight on his refined chameleon-like songcraft and indie rock sensibilities. The record has garnered attention from NPR and Rolling Stone and serves as a perfectly distilled introduction to the mind of a Calgary indie-pop auteur.\nHip Hip ThursdayWorking to honour the traditions of jazz and hip-hop while charting new creative territories with influences of funk\, indie\, and rock\, Hip Hip Thursday’s music is not just about sound\, but about storytelling\, emotion\, and connection to the important realities of the world around us. Just wait and see where these six musicians can take you.\nImportant info: \nStart and running times are subject to change.
